Fall 2023 Merit Scholarships


Central Washington University is proud to be one of the best values in education. We are also proud to award over 17 Million in scholarships annually. Merit scholarships recognize the academic achievements of Washington residents who are new, full-time, First-Year and Transfer students. These awards can only be applied to CWU tuition.

No separate application is required; CWU will use your admissions data to determine eligibility for these awards.

Transfer Students Merit Tuition Scholarship

Less than 45 credits
  • Year 1: $1,000
  • Year 2: $1,000
  • Year 3: $1,000
  • Year 4: $1,000
  • Total: $4,000
45 - 89 credits
  • Year 1: $1,000
  • Year 2: $1,000
  • Year 3: $1,000
  • Total: $3,000
90 - 134 credits
  • Year 1: $1,000
  • Year 2: $1,000
  • Total: $2,000
135 - 180 credits
  • Year 1: $1,000
  • Total: $1,000

Minimum Transfer GPA 3.25 to qualify. Requires a minimum 2.5 CWU cumulative GPA to renew. Running Start/Cornerstone/College in the High School students do not qualify for this award. 

Additional Merit Scholarships Offered for One Year

  • Early Scholar: $500 tuition waiver to CWU College in the High School and Running Start students.
  • Science Talent Expansion Program (STEP) Majors: $1,000 tuition waiver to eligible First-Year students who participate in the STEP Program. Visit CWU STEP for details.

Please note:

  • Eligible First Year students must confirm admission to receive a merit tuition award.
  • The total amount waived cannot exceed 80% of CWU tuition charges. Awards may be reduced if other waivers combine to exceed this limit.
  • Merit Tuition Scholarships are subject to change on an annual basis without notice.
