Conditions of Financial Aid Award

Financial aid awards are contingent upon your eligibility at the time of disbursement. Federal and State gift aid programs are limited to students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.

To receive financial assistance, you will need to comply with the following conditions. If you have questions or find that you cannot comply with these conditions, please contact the CWU Financial Aid Office.

View Your Award in MyCWU

To view all financial aid you have been awarded, in the student section of your MyCWU, select the Financial folder, click on View Financial Aid, and select the year you wish to view. To accept, decline, or reduce an award amount that is not already accepted, in the student section of your MyCWU, select the Financial folder, click on Accept/Decline Awards, and select the year to wish to view. Aid Adjustments for Part-Time Enrollment

Aid will be adjusted as necessary if you are not enrolled full-time (12 or more credits for undergraduates, 10 or more credits for graduate students) as of the Financial Aid Census Date, which is the end of the Change of Schedule Period (“add/drop”). Federal grants cannot be adjusted for enrollment that occurs after Financial Aid Census Date.

First-Time Student Loan Borrowers

First time student loan borrowers must complete online Entrance Counseling and sign an online Master Promissory Note at StudentAid.Gov.

Parent PLUS Borrowers

Parents taking out a PLUS loan must complete the online PLUS loan application at StudentAid.Gov each time they borrow. If it is the first time they are borrowing for the student, they must also complete a Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note at StudentAid.Gov after completing the application.

Dropping or Withdrawing

You must contact the Financial Aid Office before dropping 100% of classes, and before withdrawing from one or more classes after the Change of Schedule Period (“add/drop”) ends, if you have questions about how this will impact your aid eligibility for the current quarter or future quarters.

Fall and Winter Degree Completion

You must notify the Financial Aid Office in writing if you have applied for graduation for fall or winter quarter, as this may affect your aid.

Complete an Aid Application Each Year

You must complete a new FAFSA or WASFA application for each academic year you wish to receive aid. New applications are available beginning October 1^st each year.

Additional Conditions for Recipient of Washington State Aid

By accepting state financial aid, you agree to the conditions listed below. If you have questions or find that you cannot comply with these conditions, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

• You meet the requirements for Washington State residency.
• You must provide proof of high school completion to the Admissions Office.
• You must not owe a repayment of any federal aid, nor be in default on a federal student loan.
• You do not owe a repayment to any state grant or scholarship nor are you in default on a state student loan.
• You must be matriculated: admitted to CWU as a degree-seeking student
• You must not receive aid at another school while receiving aid from CWU.
• You must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for each type of financial aid you receive.
• You must be enrolled in an eligible program and not be pursuing a degree in theology.
• If you hold a bachelor’s degree or the foreign equivalent, you are not eligible to receive state grant funds.
• If you do not attend or if you withdraw from your classes, you may owe a repayment of all or part of any state funds that you received.
• You must maintain the academic progress standards established by your institution in order to receive additional state aid.
• There could be other circumstances that would require a repayment or reduction in your current award amounts.
• You must meet all eligibility requirements for the state aid program(s) awarded.
• The offer of this financial assistance is subject to, and conditioned upon the availability of funds. Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) and the institution through which the grant, scholarship, or work study is awarded, reserve the right to withdraw, reduce, or modify the awards due to funding limitations or due to changes in circumstances which affect your eligibility for the programs(s).
• If I fail to cash my check containing state funds or pickup any remaining funds by the close of the academic year, the funds shall be returned to the program at WSAC and treated as funds declined by me.

You may choose to voluntarily make financial contributions to WSAC in recognition of the assistance that you received. All voluntary contributions will be used to provide financial assistance to other students. Please contact Washington Financial Aid for more information.

Central Washington University reserves the right to reduce, cancel, or revise your award in accordance with applicable state, federal and institutional policies and guidelines or the availability of funds.

Scholarships and Grants

Federal regulations require that scholarships, grants, and resources be considered a part of the total financial aid award and may reduce other financial aid. You are required to report outside scholarships, grants, and resources (such as guaranteed sources and DVR) to the Financial Aid Office.

Any person who knowingly makes a false statement or a misrepresentation on forms used to apply for assistance shall be subject to a fine of not more than $20,000 and sent to prison or both per the U.S. Code, HEA of 1965.
