Central Washington University's Jerilyn S. McIntyre Music Building must be experienced to be fully appreciated. Both the visual and acoustical qualities of our building have elevated the standards for educational facilities across the country. Our premiere 600-seat concert hall provides an unparalleled environment for musical performances. Having been designed with a "no compromise" approach, every seat in the house provides incredible sonic detail.     Central Washington University's 600 seat concert hall has raised the standard for universities across the country, Providing an unparalleled environment for musical performances. The "pure concert hall" is truly a remarkable space. After the premier opening by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in October of, 2004, Monica Hardy stated "They all loved it." Performers said the sound was very clear and they had very good performer-to-performer acoustics.

    Having been designed with a "no compromise" approach, every seat in the house provides incredible sonic detail. With adjustable curtains, reflection time can be altered depending on the desired acoustical effect.

    Designed by Performance Architecture from New Orleans, the entire facility magnificently displays their commitment to excellence. "The design concept for the pure concert hall was the idea that the undulating sails are symbolic of sound undulating through space and moving; it is dynamic," said Project Manager Monica Hardy of Performance Architecture, the associate architecture firm.

    The aesthetic design behind the pure concert hall was one of intimacy. Performance Architecture wanted to "create spaces where you wouldn't feel like you were in a huge sea of seats."

  • Recital Hall

    Central Washington University's 150 seat recital hall features a 22 rank Coulter pipe organ with 2 manuals and full pedals. As in our concert hall, acoustics are adjustable utilizing motorized curtains. The Recital Hall is perfect for student and faculty recitals desiring more intimacy than the larger concert hall.

    Accommodating a wide variety of musical styles, the Recital Hall's adjustable curtains alter the room's reverberation time to suit the music's particular needs.

    Designed by Performance Architecture from New Orleans, the entire facility magnificently displays their commitment to excellence.

    The Recital Hall, along with all of the performance spaces at CWU, includes microphones that feed our centrally located recording room.

    Virtually all performance are recorded with pristine clarity preserving the works for future generations.

  • Band & Choir Rooms

    Central Washington University's band rehearsal space provides students with yet another beautiful and functional acoustical space for their studies.

    Featuring adjustable acoustics, an integrated audio system and plenty of storage space, the band room is a perfect place for preparing their works.

    The Choral room is always in use at Central. From the 140 voice University Chorale to the smaller chamber choir and 12 piece low brass ensemble, the space provides fantastic acoustics for a wide variety of musical arrangements.

    Like all of Central's spaces, curtains are utilized to adjust acoustics to the desired level of "liveness."
