Department-Approved Electives
Examination and Thesis
Oral Examination
You’ll need to pass an oral exam with your graduate committee. This will cover your area of specialization and coursework, and it’s best to complete it at least one quarter before you graduate.
Thesis Submission
You’ll also need to write a thesis and submit it to both your graduate committee and the School of Graduate Studies and Research.
Final Examination
For your final exam, you’ll present your thesis results in a public seminar, followed by an oral exam from your thesis committee about your research.

BS/MS Pathway
The Biological Sciences Combined BS/MS Pathway is an accelerated Master of Science degree track in which you conduct research and take graduate courses in the last year of your undergraduate biology degree, followed by one year of graduate courses and research to complete your thesis.
