Letter from the Dean

Create your Future

Welcome to the School of Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) at Central Washington University (CWU).

Graduate education is a transformative journey, and at CWU, we are dedicated to expanding access to the unique opportunities an advanced degree can offer. These opportunities include personal and professional growth, as well as the pursuit of research and creative activities that empower our students to make a positive impact on their future. With over 30 graduate program options in various disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields, our vibrant community is committed to asking critical questions and expanding knowledge to address society's most pressing challenges and opportunities.

In collaboration with graduate faculty and other institutional partners, SGSR fosters scholarly excellence, societal impact, and a culture of inclusion and innovation. Our goal is to ensure that you thrive in all aspects of your experience at CWU, whether you're an enrolled student or a prospective candidate.

With a history spanning over 70 years, CWU’s graduate programs play a crucial role in our aspiration to be a model learning community of access and opportunity. Leading this vital part of CWU is an honor, as we empower the next generation of researchers, leaders, and working professionals to develop innovative approaches for a more sustainable and equitable future.
Sincerely,
Rodrigo F. Rentería-Valencia, Ph.D.
Dean for Graduate Education, Research & Strategic Initiatives

We respectfully acknowledge that we are on the ceded lands of the Pshwanapum and other bands and tribes of the Yakama Nation, as recognized in the Treaty of 1855. The Yakama people remain committed stewards of this land, cherishing it and protecting it, as instructed by elders through generations. t is our honor and privilege to be here today, and we express our heartfelt gratitude for the legacy of the original people, their lives, and their descendants.
