A Bite of Science
Seminar Series
'A Bite of Science' is a series of seminars bringing insight and discussion into modern scientific topics while remaining accessible to a wider audience. Each seminar is open to the public; all who have or do not have a scientific background are encouraged to join.
The series is hosted by the College of the Sciences, the Department of Biology, the Department of Chemistry, and the Department of Geography, in partnership with The Ridge Restaurant & Bar. The seminars are hosted every second Tuesday of each month during the academic year. The series will return October 2026.

A Bite of Dental Chemistry
Dr. Joshua Kirk, DMD

The Department of Chemistry invites Dr. Joshua Kirk, DMD, for the June installment of 'A Bite of Science.'
Dr. Kirk is a local dentist and owner of Mountain View Dental in Ellensburg. He is a CWU alumnus and graduated from Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Arizona. He was awarded a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry after years of additional education and extensive testing.
There is no shortage of information barraging us each day when it comes to our health. Join Dr. Kirk in 'A Bite of Dental Chemistry,' exploring the science of dentistry and more broadly, how to think scientifically as we receive information that impacts our health decisions.
'A Bite of Dental Chemistry' marks the last seminar for the academic year. It will be hosted at The Ridge Restaurant & Bar on Tuesday, June 9, at 5:30 PM, and is open to the public. For inquiries, reach out to the Department of Chemistry (chemistry@cwu.edu). The series returns October 2026.

2026 Tuesday May 12Join Jocelyn Akins, PhD, at The Ridge Restaurant & Bar for the next 'A Bite of Science' seminar! This series of seminars is hosted by your College of the Sciences Biology, Chemistry, and Geography Departments.
Mountain Carnivores in the Face of Climate Change is presented by wildlife biologist Jocelyn Akins, Founder and Executive Director of Cascades Carnivore Project. Dr. Akins has dedicated her nearly three-decades long career researching and addressing conservation issues facing rare carnivores in the Cascade Mountain Range.
