Preparing for Appointments

  • How to Schedule an Appointment

Every student in the College of Business is assigned an academic advisor. You can view your academic advisor in MyCWU.

To schedule an appointment, you can call the College of Business Career, Advising, and Tutoring Center (CAT Center) at 509-963-2930 or navigate to your MyCWU Student Tab > Advising > Schedule an Advising Appointment.

  • Appointment Expectations

    For All Appointments

    • Bring your student ID card or know your student ID number.
    • Please arrive on time for your appointment to ensure a timely check in.
    • Come prepared with questions or topics to discuss.
    • You are expected to behave in alignment with both CWU's Student Conduct Code and the Statement of Conduct for the College of Business.
    • If you are unable to attend, please call to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Doing so ahead of time allows other students to schedule that time slot.

    For Virtual Appointments

    • Please be in an environment that is productive for a professional conversation:
      • The environment is as quiet as you can reasonably accommodate
      • Ensure that you are comfortable with the environment you exhibit
      • For video, please be dressed to the level you would be for an in-person advising appointment
        • Please ensure that any people in view of the camera are dressed
    • You may want to consider having headphones if unable to ensure privacy
    • You should have access to a computer in which you can log into your MyCWU portal
    • Advisors cannot have phone/Zoom appointment with a student when a student is driving
    • If utilizing Zoom, ensure the name on the Zoom account reflects your full preferred name and aligns with the name on your student account

Please do not schedule an appointment during a time when you will be preoccupied by other tasks (including driving, while at work, in class, etc.). We want to ensure you have a helpful, meaningful appointment in which you can ask questions, take notes, and be able to freely discuss any issues.

If you are unable to find an open time during our business hours that works in your schedule, please let your advisor know so we can work with you to find a time that works.

Advisors have the right to end the appointment at any time if the student is not in a conducive environment or not acting in a way that allows for an appropriate and effective conversation between the advisor and the student.

  • No-Show Policy

At the Career, Advising, and Tutoring (CAT) Center, missing scheduled appointments impacts our ability to serve students effectively. You will be marked as a "no-show" if you fail to attend your appointment or arrive more than 7 minutes late without prior notice.

Repeated no-shows may result in a temporary block from scheduling appointments, requiring you to attend our weekly Drop-In Advising instead. To avoid being marked as a no-show, please cancel or reschedule appointments by calling our front desk at (509) 963-2930.
