Tribal Relations
Tribal Relations at Central Washington University
Tribal Relations is focused on building and sustaining respectful relationships with Tribal Nations while advancing university-wide understanding of Native knowledge, culture, and Tribal government.
Guided by respect, reciprocity, and Tribal sovereignty, the office creates opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and community members to learn directly from Tribal leaders, Elders, and cultural specialists.
The office supports government-to-government relations between Tribal Nations and university executive leadership, working alongside President Wohlpart and the Executive Leadership team to honor these partnerships at the highest institutional level.
Grounded in gratitude for Tribal Nations and Native peoples, the original and current caretakers of the lands where CWU campuses are located, we are committed to ongoing learning and listening to Tribal Nations' priorities. Understanding that they have entrusted us with the care of their students, the office will work in partnership with Tribes and CWU campus partners to ensure students are supported, valued, their identities celebrated, and that they experience a sense of belonging. We are also working to create a dedicated gathering space in the center of the state where Tribes can come together to collaborate, share knowledge, and advance priorities in partnership with CWU.
