Staff
Jeff Bousson, CWU Sustainability Director
Jeff Bousson leads and oversees the Office of Sustainability at Central Washington University (CWU). Having earned a master’s degree in Climate Science and Solutions from Northern Arizona University, Jeff is responsible for the strategic implementation of CWU’s Climate Action Plan and campus-wide sustainability initiatives. Jeff and his team work to produce environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable outcomes in partnership with the campus and local community. Jordan Spradlin, CWU Sustainability Coordinator
In November 2024, Jordan Spradlin joined the Wildcat Family as CWU’s Sustainability Coordinator. In this role, Jordan leads efforts to support the Student Sustainability Ambassadors and drives campus-wide sustainability outreach and community engagement initiatives. She collaborates across departments and student organizations to promote sustainability awareness through events, trainings, and campaigns, while managing communications, data collection, and strategic projects that enhance CWU’s commitment to environmental stewardship and climate action.
Before joining CWU, Jordan worked with the Green Sports Alliance, where she helped catalyze sustainable change within the sports industry. She collaborated with venues, teams, conferences, and fans to increase awareness around sustainability and reduce the industry’s environmental footprint. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, with an emphasis in Health Promotion, from the University of Arizona and a Master of Public Health in Environmental and Occupational Health from Oregon State University. Students
Xavier Bumb, Sustainable Procurement Intern
My name is Xavier, and I am a Supply Chain Management student at Central Washington University serving as the Sustainable Procurement Intern. In this role, I support CWU’s sustainability initiatives by evaluating current purchasing practices, researching sustainable procurement strategies, and identifying opportunities to incorporate environmental and social responsibility into purchasing decisions. I look forward to applying my background in supply chain management while collaborating with campus departments to support CWU’s long term sustainability goals.
Sustainability in the Curriculum Team
Dr. Liz Fountain, It Management
Liz Fountain began incorporating sustainability related IT projects into her teaching in summer of 2023. The satisfaction of being able to influence real-world outcomes, along with helping students understand their power and capabilities, led her to continue and expand this teaching practice. She serves as Interim Assistant Chair, Senior Lecturer and FlexIT/Pro Mentor in the IT Management department at CWU. Dr. Fountain holds a B.A. in Philosophy and an M.A. in Psychology from Seattle University, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Capella University. Liz represents the College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) on the Sustainability in the Curriculum Faculty team.
Dr. Tim Hargrave, College of Buisness
Tim Hargrave is an Associate Professor in the Management and Marketing Department in the College of Business. Professor Hargrave teaches a Business & Society course and has co-authored a business ethics textbook. He has a long-time interest in sustainability, and prior to joining academe worked in Washington, DC on climate change policy. He earned an MBA and an MA in Energy & Resources at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota's Department of Strategic Management and Organization. He has served on CWU's Sustainability Council for four years. Tim represents the College of Business on the Sustainability in the Curriculum Team.
Dr. Susan Kaspari, Geological Sciences
Susan Kaspari is a Professor of Geological Sciences, Director of the Environmental Studies Program, and a climate scientist at Central Washington University. Susan has been a dedicated advocate for sustainability at CWU since 2014. She teaches action-based courses through CWU’s Sustainability Minor, equipping students with the tools to drive meaningful change on campus and in their communities. In addition to her work with students, Susan leads professional development workshops for faculty both at CWU and internationally, helping them integrate sustainability into their teaching. Maya Jewell Zeller, English Department
Maya Jewell Zeller (she/her/hers) is an Associate Professor of English and co-coordinator of CWU’s BA programs in Professional and Creative Writing. Her courses, both on campus and online, often focus on the ethics and practice of deeply knowing our communities and environments, and working toward social justice through writing, publishing, and community-building. Maya is the author of the forthcoming memoir-in-essays Raised by Ferns, as well as several poetry collections, most recently out takes/ glove box, which won the New American Poetry Prize; she is also co-author of Advanced Poetry: A Writer’s Guide and Anthology and co-editor of Evergreen: Grim Tales & Verses from the Gloomy Northwest. Maya’s creative work often centers the natural world as a character and wrestles with boundaries and human complicity. When she isn’t teaching, writing, or reading, Maya likes to paddle board, hike, and engage in other outdoor play with her children. She often wishes she were just lying under a very tall tree. Maya represents the College of Arts and Humanities on the Sustainability in the Curriculum Team.
