Program Description

The Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering technology (MET) has an emphasis in mechanical or manufacturing technology. The major provides a broad foundation in the practical application of mechanical engineering principles.

Likely Career Paths

Each year, our graduates have a nearly 100% job placement.

Professionals involved with structures and motion in mechanical systems are often designers of mechanical systems; work in metallurgical laboratories; and work on space vehicles, as well as more common devices and products.

Aerospace, Robotics, Manufacturing Processes, Renewable Energy, Hydropower, Building Energy/Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems.

Students should prioritize completing basic science and math coursework before focusing on major-specific coursework (ETSC and EET). Please see Advising Notes for more information.

Advising Notes

An Associate in Science - Transfer Degree Track 2 (AS-T Track 2) is recommended, but not required. However, some general education requirements will still need to be fulfilled with an AS-T Track 2.
Transfers with an AA-DTA might take longer than transfers with an AS-T Track 2 if they have not completed Physics, Math, and Chemistry.
Any Washington State DTA (Direct Transfer Agreement) degree will satisfy all general education requirements.
Students pursuing the MET degree should work with the departmental advisor to ensure that the prerequisites for the upper-division electives have been met. Due to the number of hours in this program, some students may find that this program requires additional time to complete.
A minimum of a 2.25 GPA is required in the program.
Be aware that there are several courses that require a minimum grade to continue to progress in the program:
- MATH 152 Pre-Calculus I (C or better)
- MATH 153 Pre-Calculus II (C or better)
- MATH 172 Calculus I (C or better)
- MATH 173 Calculus II (C+ or better)
- PHYS 182 General Physics II (C+ or better)
- ETSC 311 Statics (C+ or better)
- ETSC 312 Mechanics of Materials (C+ or better)
