The Transfer Equivalency Site (TES) provides CWU equivalencies for courses at other colleges and universities.

  • Students are encouraged to attempt a reading, writing and math basic skills test before transferring to CWU.  This can be met by the SAT, ACT or a WEST-B test attempt.
  • At some community colleges in Washington, EDUC& 240 is available and will transfer as EFC 320, which counts in the major. It is helpful to complete it if available.
  • Any Washington state DTA (Direct Transfer Agreement) degree will satisfy all general education requirements, but may not meet the Teacher Certification Program course pre-requisite requirements. Requirements can be found at Teacher Certification Program Admission.
  • Have a university-level cumulative GPA of at least 2.3 for full admission to this major and a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA in the major to exit the program and to graduate from CWU with teacher certification.
  • Earn a minimum grade of C in each course counted toward fulfilling major requirements.
  • This major is required to take the Secondary Education Program.
  • Candidates admitted into the School of Education Teacher Certification Program are required to pass all courses with a C or higher, maintain a GPA of 3.0, and successfully pass Student Teaching Secondary, EFC 470, and Pedagogy Capstone, EFC 460.
  • Major requirements may change over time; students will be expected to meet the catalog requirements in place at the time they are admitted to the major.

If you are considering this major, please contact Dr. Bartel (kim.bartel@cwu.edu) right away, even while you are still attending another school. You will receive specific advising about courses to take in order to best prepare you for completing the program in an efficient manner.
