The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act

“The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education."

    Where to Find

    Two enrollment options:

    1. Instructor-led Session In-Person or via WebEx (1 hour):
      • How to Enroll: Log into MyCWU > Learning Tab > Search for Learning > Type "Understanding FERPA" > Understanding FERPA (CW-1586) > Enroll > Submit Enrollment
    2. CLA Online (30 min): FERPA for Higher Education

    What to Expect

    The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that ensures students' educational records are kept confidential and permits student access to their records.
    This course will teach employees the basics of their responsibilities as it applies to FERPA.
