Message from the Chief

Welcome to the Central Washington University Police and Public Safety website.
The mission of the University Police and Public Safety (UPPS) is to work in partnership with our communities to create a safe and secure environment through education and enforcement. In fulfilling this mission, the police department cannot do this alone; it requires the commitment of every student, staff, and faculty member to work in partnership. We at UPPS firmly believe in the community policing model to help meet our mission.

Throughout the year we conduct educational presentations to our campus community from emergency preparedness to personal safety and everything between. We also understand that building relationships with our students, faculty and staff is an integral part of completing our mission. To assist in building these relationships, our philosophy is to be integrated in our community’s events. Doing this we host bar-b-ques, attend and participate in student events and partner with student groups on projects that build community engagement. We firmly believe in being not only a full service police department but a resource for our community.

At Central Washington University, we believe in transparency. Our annual security report is posted, giving you details of the crime statistics and resources that are available to our community.

Our department has an open-door policy. We encourage you to come to our office if you have any questions, concerns or just want to get to know us better.

I invite you to continue to look through our website for valuable information about our dedicated department and outstanding campus.

Go Wildcats,
Chief Jason Berthon-Koch
