Understanding the Preparedness Cycle

The Preparedness Cycle provides the foundation for CWU’s emergency readiness strategies. It includes five key phases:

  • Preparedness
  • Prevention
  • Response
  • Recovery
  • Mitigation

These phases guide continuous efforts in planning, organizing, training, equipping, exercising, and evaluating our emergency management activities.

By using the Preparedness Cycle, CWU can proactively develop and implement strategies to reduce risks, minimize impacts, and enhance recovery—no matter the disaster, natural or human-caused. While not all disasters can be prevented, effective preparation can make a significant difference in safeguarding life and property.
