Women's Rugby Captures Plate Title at Collegiate 7's Championship

The Central Washington University women's rugby team used a pair of 29-0 victories to capture the Plate Championship at the USA Rugby Collegiate 7's National Championship.

The Wildcats lost their final two matchups on Saturday, but returned to the pitch on Sunday and defeated The University California, Davis, and the University of Virginia with identical 29-0 scores.

Within the first minute of the opener versus UC Davis, Carrie Vaillancourt and Mele Halahuni each scored a try. The two scores, coupled with a Cassidy Meyers conversion gave CWU an early 12-0 lead.

Vallaincourt touched down a try early in the second half, and Lead Ingold and Yana Manoa each added a try as the Wildcats were victories 29-0

Vaillancourt opened and closed the first half scoring for the Wildcats in the Plate final. With a try by Halahuni sandwiched between the Vaillancourt scores, the Wildcats held a 17-0 lead over Virginia at intermission.

Meyers and Asinate Serevi each scored in the 9th and 11th minutes, respectively, and a Leah Ingold conversion led the Wildcats to the 29-0 win over UC Davis and the Plate title.
