Student Returning from International Trip May Have Been Exposed to Measles

A Central Washington University student who recently returned from international travel was reported to have been exposed to measles. The student was not vaccinated against measles and does not live on campus. At this time the student is not ill and cannot transmit the measles virus to anyone else. The Kittitas County Public Health Department and the Washington State Department of Health are investigating the case to confirm the exposure.

Because the student was not vaccinated against the measles, the Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) has required the student to be quarantined off campus until the risk of developing measles and transmitting the disease is past. KCPHD is working closely with CWU Student Medical Clinic to ensure the rules of quarantine are followed while also safeguarding the health and well-being of the student.

It is recommended that everyone review their MMR immunization status to confirm they are up to date. Often parents and/or healthcare providers maintain copies of vaccination records.
