Poet Jos Charles to Conduct Reading and Craft Talk on April 2

Award-winning poet Jos Charles visits Central Washington University on April 2 for a public reading and craft talk.

Charles, author of feeld, winner of the 2017 National Poetry Series, and Safe Space, will give a theory and craft talk from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the Brooks Library Second Floor Commons, followed by a public reading of her works from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Library Second Floor Commons.

Writing of feeld, the Paris Review said, “in Charles’ hands, the language itself transitions, defamiliarized, and in its new spellings it opens to a poly-vocality where words contain hidden meanings.”

Charles, who has an MFA from the University of Arizona and is pursuing a PhD in English from the University of California, Irvine, received the 2016 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenburg Fellowship as well as the 2015 Monique Wittig Writer’s Scholarship.

Charles has had poetry published with POETRY, Poem-A-Day, PEN, Washington Square Review, Denver Quarterly, Action Yes, The Feminist Wire, and elsewhere.
