A classroom at Central Washington University has been named the Mortenson Safety and Health Management Classroom in honor of leading developer and design-builder, Mortenson. The classroom name acknowledges Mortenson's $50,000 donation earlier this year to CWU's Safety and Health Management program.

"Central Washington University has partnered with Mortenson for over a decade, and our mutual partnership has positively impacted our student success and the communities we serve," College of Education and Professional Studies Dean Sathyanarayanan Rajendran said. "Their generosity will support our students in enhancing high-impact practices both in and outside of the classroom. We look forward to continued collaboration with them."

Mortenson Safety Director and two-time CWU alumnus, Nick Cordell, helped secure the $50,000 donation, provided by the Mortenson operating groups in Seattle and Portland.

"Mortenson is honored to support the CWU Safety and Health Management program with this contribution," Cordell said. "As a CWU alum, it is important to me that the program remains strong, and that the next generation of safety professionals is guaranteed a future of education and learning."

Lectures and class activities within the Safety and Health Management and Construction Management programs are held in the Mortenson classroom inside Hogue Technology Building. The 50-seat classroom features several photos of Mortenson projects.

"We sincerely appreciate Mortenson's continued commitment to our students' success," Assistant Professor Jennifer Serne said. "Their support increases our students' ability to prevent workplace accidents and help keep workers in the industry safe."

A plaque inside the classroom reads, "We are all born to be leaders. We believe leadership doesn't just happen to us, it happens within us. So bring your perspective and your drive to work every day. You will make a difference. Let's redefine possible."
