Central Washington University student artist Maxwell Volkman’s solo BFA senior exhibition, Home Sweet Home, will run April 9-12 in Gallery 231 on the second floor of Randall Hall.

Volkman will show large mixed-media works on canvas and intimate small scale works on paper consisting of oil paint, spray paint, found images and objects, and more.

“I am depicting the hidden darkness of the relationship between suburbia and childhood,” said Volkman about his artistic process.

Fragmented family photographs offer a deep reflection of anguish and mourning. In the midst of familial remembrance and disorder, contemporary images arise, which continue into a nostalgic, yet modern sense of chaos and psychological damage. These scattered thoughts reveal raw emotion amongst utter mayhem.

Volkman will continue his studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago next fall, where he will work towards his Master of Fine Arts degree. Volkman’s dreams and goals do not have limits as he says his objective out of graduate school is to obtain gallery representation and show alongside the world’s most influential contemporary artists.

Home Sweet Home will open with an artist reception on Tuesday April 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Gallery 231 on the second floor of Randall Hall. The exhibition will run through Friday, April 12. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is free after 4 p.m.
