Getz-Short Apartments Reoccupied by Students after Repair Project

Students again are calling the 42-unit Getz-Short apartments home after the complex underwent significant repair work. The one- and two-bedroom CWU apartments, on the corner of University Way and Ruby Street, are fully occupied for fall quarter.

“We are excited about the reopening of Getz-Short as it better meets our students’ needs to be closer to downtown while still maintaining proximity to the campus,” said Richard DeShields, associate dean of student living. “It’s always been a popular apartment due to its location and ease of access.”

The repair project included asbestos abatement, carpet and vinyl floor replacement, new casework and cabinetry, new kitchen and bathroom fixtures, sewer line replacement, fresh paint, and updated appliances, electrical outlets, light fixtures, and breakers. An automatic irrigation system was installed to conserve water.

The work was performed by CWU’s maintenance department and was funded by housing revenue reserves. DeShields said the project continues the university’s commitment to the comprehensive housing master plan and adds to overall campus life and student support.
