Gene Shoda Named Interim Vice President of Operations

Central Washington University President James L. Gaudino has named Gene Shoda as Interim Vice President of Operations. Shoda steps in for Stevan DeSoer, who will temporarily assume a part-time role in the President’s office while he addresses medical issues.

“Steve is an invaluable member of our leadership team, who has been a key player in the university’s efforts to accommodate its present informational needs as well as to plan for future needs,” Gaudino said. “For the time being, he will serve as Special Assistant to the President, which allows him to continue providing advice and direction to the university.”

Shoda, currently project manager at Sierra-Cedar, Inc., a Georgia-based information technology and services company, previously served as CWU’s Interim Assistant Vice President for Information Services and Chief Information Officer. Additionally, he has worked with Central for several years in various capacities and on various projects as a consultant.

DeSoer has served as vice president of operations since July 2014. Previously, he was chief human resources officer. He has more than 20 years of experience in higher education and shared governance, having worked at Washington State University and in the University of Alaska system prior to coming to CWU.

“I have full confidence in both Gene and Steve. This move will allow the university to continue moving forward with essential operational programs and initiatives,” Gaudino said.
