Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your patience as the Vision/Mission Steering Committee reviewed the extensive feedback provided regarding the three models for Values and a Strategic Plan Framework. As noted in an earlier email, the feedback was robust, with over 500 participants. The overwhelming consensus was for us to pursue Model II, with some important feedback for revisions.

We are now ready to share the final draft Values to the university community and prepare for the final step in the process of developing our Strategic Plan. On the Community Updates page, we have loaded a PDF with the Values, including both a longer version and a shorter version of the value statements. The document also includes an outline for a Strategic Plan and a chart for how the University Strategic Plan will unfold at the division and unit levels.

The next step in the process is to get feedback on these draft Value statements and to populate the University-level Strategic Plan. Over the next month, within your offices and departments, please do two things: (1) Review the Values statements and prepare any feedback you might have for the Steering Committee to consider and (2) Develop university-level goals and initiatives for each of the four values of the Strategic Plan. We will host a meeting of directors, department chairs, and other university leaders to receive this feedback and draft the Strategic Plan. That meeting should occur in mid-May.

One very important note: The more you think institutionally about goals and initiatives as you consider the University Strategic Plan, the more assistance you will provide to the Steering Committee. As an explanation for institutional thinking, you will note that Human Resources, or Information Services, or Graduate Programs do not show up in the Values and will not show up in the university-level goals and initiatives. That does not mean these offices are not important. Indeed, their contributions to the identity and direction of Central Washington University will be affirmed in the division- and unit-level strategic plans that will nest under the university-wide plan.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you for your participation-we are nearing the end of this two-year, very inclusive process.

Sincerely,

A. James Wohlpart
President
