From the President and Provost: CWU Prepares for Winter Storms
- January 2, 2022
- Jim Wohlpart
Dear CWU Community:

CWU is prepared for heavy snowfall this week, and will have new snow-removal equipment in use.
Happy new year and welcome to winter quarter!
As CWU prepares to resume classes on Tuesday, January 4, the forecast is calling for potential heavy snowfall in Ellensburg and across the state. But rest assured: CWU has got you covered.
Our emergency communications team is keeping a close eye on weather developments, and we will relay updated information to students, faculty, and staff in a timely manner. Regular updates will be posted on our Facebook and Twitter channels, and on the CWU Emergency Notification webpage.
We are aware that these severe weather conditions may create travel issues for many of our students. If you are concerned about traveling this week, you may consider alternate transportation options, such as FlixBus and the Bellair Airporter. If you are unable to make it to your in-person classes, contact your instructor to make arrangements.
Please be aware that the Ellensburg campus almost never closes because we have the equipment and personnel required to adjust to changing conditions. In the rare event that the main campus does close due to adverse weather or other emergencies, students and employees will receive text, email, and voice messages from CWU Alert! The centers and sites will continue to operate under the guidance of their host institutions.
The entire CWU community can be confident that our operations team will be doing everything it can to ensure safety on each of our campuses statewide, including the use of new snow-removal equipment and clearing walkways for improved traction.
Additional emergency communications related to the start of winter quarter will be delivered throughout the week. Check your CWU email, social media, and the Central Today news page for the most up-to-date information. Please remember to trust only official CWU communication channels for information and updates.
We hope you have had a relaxing holiday break, and we look forward to seeing you on campus and in the classroom this week. Safe travels!
Sincerely,
Jim Wohlpart Michelle DenBeste
President Provost
