Former CWU student Miesha Tate wins first UFC title

  • March 7, 2016

[Former CWU student] Tate won her first UFC title on Saturday night when she defeated Holm to take the women's bantamweight title at the MGM Grand.

While Nate Diaz defeating Conor McGregor may have stolen most of the headlines at UFC 196, Miesha Tate also defied the odds to shock Holly Holm and claim the women's bantamweight title.

Holm only won the belt herself in November last year with a sensational KO of the then-champion Ronda Rousey.

Her enthusiasm, however, to be a fighting champion backfired on Saturday night and in a topsy-turvy affair she was defeated by Tate in the fifth round by a rear naked choke submission.
