Family Weekend Features Comedy, Theater, Art, Brunch and More
- May 1, 2015
CWU's annual Family Weekend, where students share their college experience with loved ones and friends, is Friday through Sunday. The event also gives families a taste of life in Ellensburg.
Emmy winning comedian Sara Schaefer will kick off the weekend at 8 p.m. Friday, May 8 in the SURC Theatre. Schaefer has appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Best Week Ever, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. She was also co-host of the late night MTV show Nikki & Sara Live.
The CWU Theatre Ensemble will give three performances of Fiddler on the Roof, the classic tale of a milkman battling personal struggles while trying to keep his family together. On Friday and Saturday evening the timeless play can be coupled with a dinner package at Dakota Café in downtown Ellensburg.
Family Weekend concludes on Mother’s Day with a special brunch featuring a delicious selection of eats and a musical performance by singer-songwriter Nelly’s Echo.
The 2015 Juried Undergraduate Student Art Exhibit also is on display throughout the weekend. Other activities include interactive art at Gallery One, a free Zumba class, indoor rock climbing, 88.1 The ’Burg radio station tours, Yakima River floats, a tea party, basket making, and more.
