'Digital Dependence' art exhibit explores collision of artificial and real

What happens when the digital world becomes more comforting than the real world? In Digital Dependence, CWU student Katherine Mo portrays the digital world she yearns for by merging photography with her digital renders.

Mo's Bachelor of Fine Arts senior exhibition "Digital Dependence" will open Monday, March 6, with a reception from 5-7 p.m. at Gallery 231, on the second floor of Randall Hall. The exhibit will run through March 10. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"I've always been drawn to the world building commonly found in video games, which is what drew me towards 3D design as a medium," the artist said. "Being able to create scenes that would otherwise be impossible, but by merging it with photography, I can create environments that coexist with each other."

Through a combination of several digital mediums including Photoshop, computer generated imagery (CGI), projection mapping, and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated imagery, Mo creates these otherworldly images that merge both real and artificial.
