The Central Washington University women's rugby team will travel to the University of Washington this Saturday to kick off its 15's regular season.

"We get to get back on our feet and kind of see where we left off and what we retained from last fall," Head Coach Mel Denham explained. "We get to see where we can build from there."

The Wildcats built an impressive record in the fall, going 7-2 in 7s contests, boasting a 4-0 record in conference and a flawless 4-0 record at home.

CWU competes in the USA Rugby Division 1 conference and began its inaugural year at the Division 1 level with fast start in 7s. They will look to make their mark in 15s this spring.

"We are looking to continue to develop the skill sets of players," Denham said. "The expectation is that we as coaches see improvements from last fall and leave ourselves with a platform to build into the following years."

The match versus the Huskies is slated for a 1 p.m start time.

"I think the girls have been working hard, Katie Dowty (asst. coach) has been working a lot with them on their speed and decision making," Denham said. "I expect us to have a good competitive season."
