The campus community is invited to attend CWU's Climate Change Action Plan Kickoff event at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in SURC 137.

Campus sustainability initiatives of all kinds, including the use of solar power, will be discussed at Wednesday's Climate Action Plan event in the SURC.
Campus sustainability initiatives of all kinds, including the use of solar power, will be discussed at Wednesday's Climate Action Plan event in the SURC.

Sustainability Coordinator Jeff Bousson will be leading the forum, which is intended to help Central set the stage for developing and implementing strategies and achievable action steps aimed at addressing climate change.

Students, staff, and faculty will learn more about CWU's commitment to sustainability, why climate change is one of the most critical issues of our generation, and the opportunities we have to build a more equitable and sustainable future.

"Our efforts to bring together the campus community while collaborating with the City of Ellensburg on its Sustainability and Energy Plan as we build our first-ever Climate Action Plan strongly aligns with CWU's mission to fostering high impact practices, sustainability, and authentic community partnerships," Bousson said, adding that Earth Week and Earth Day (April 22) are unique opportunities to engage students and employees on sustainability issues.

The Climate Change Action Plan Kick-Off event serves as the official springboard for the university's ambitious efforts to outline clear pathways for equity-focused climate action throughout operations and academics. Wednesday's event will be the first of many upcoming Sustainability Café events in 2023. Light food and refreshments will be provided.

Attendees do not need to be experts in sustainability or climate change to participate in the planning process. CWU Sustainability is providing a platform for attendees to share ideas and feedback as CWU develops our five-year Climate Change Action Plan, which will be completed and adopted by February 2024.
