CWU to Host Virtual SOURCE Research Conference Next Week

Central Washington University will be hosting the annual Symposium for University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE) conference virtually next week, starting with a welcome event on Sunday, May 16. Over the course of the week, each of the CWU colleges and programs will have a day in the spotlight, starting with the College of the Sciences (COTS) on Monday.

This year's COTS presentation topics include mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, social sciences (i.e., anthropology and psychology), mathematics and science education, and geocentric subjects like geography and geology. A capstone presentation featuring alumni speaker Bridget August, a senior hydrogeologist at GeoEngineers, will take place online at 5 p.m., followed by a dance performance by Gabrielle McNeillie.

On Tuesday, the College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) will be featured, with presentations covering public health, food and family, accessibility studies, and a variety of education topics, such as physical education, engineering and technology. The CEPS capstone presentation will feature alumni speaker Dr. Cassandra Nikolaus, a postdoctoral research associate for Washington State University in the Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH). CWU Professor Andrea Eklund will also deliver a fashion presentation.

Next up, the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) will be featured alongside the William O. Douglas Honors College on Wednesday. CAH presenters will focus on study abroad projects, racial community studies, film, history, music, theater, and nonprofit management. Projects from academic service learning, the McNair Scholars Program, CWU Libraries, and the Douglas Honors College will also be highlighted. The capstone presentation will include a presentation by CWU alumnus and graphic designer Matthew Conrardy, and a theater presentation by CWU professor Patrick Dizney.

Finally, the presentations focused on the College of Business, graduate studies, and COVID-19 research will be featured Thursday. In addition, recipients of the new Faculty-Student Provost Research Grants will present their work. The evening's capstone presentation will feature an orchestra performance and an address from alumni speaker Jadvar Gill, who now serves as a graduate research assistant at Seattle Pacific University.
