CWU Rugby Headed To Denver For The College Sevens National Championships

  • May 21, 2015

The Central Washington University rugby program will send both the men's and women's teams to Denver, CO to compete in the USA Rugby Collegiate Sevens National Championship that will begin May 23.

"We are ready to transition into 7s," Head coach Tony Pacheco said. "It's a different game and I'm interested to see how sharp we are going to be because we have been in 15s mode for the past five months."

The men's team saw its last action in a 35-8 loss in Provo, UT in a Varsity Cup semifinal matchup against eventual 15s champion, BYU. As for the women's team, they saw their last action in the National Championship game versus Penn State University.

"It'll be very important to build throughout the tournament," Pacheco added. "Some of the better teams have been playing 7s all spring. Our biggest challenge will be getting back into the swing of 7s because we haven't had as much prep time."

All 7s matchups will be live streamed on usarugbytv.com as the finals for the tournament will be aired live on ESPN 3, May. 24.
