CWU ROTC Cadets Continue Veterans Day Vigil Tradition
- November 10, 2015
For the 26th consecutive year, Central Washington Universityâs Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) senior class is paying a Veterans Day tribute to the countryâs prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA).
Beginning at midnight Tuesday, November 10, and continuing through midnight on Veterans Day cadets will live in Spartan conditions in a tent outside of McConnell Hall.
âThis annual 24-hour event honors our missing service members and their families,â said Maj. Amber Johnson, CWU Air Force ROTC operations flight commander. âIt highlights the governmentâs commitment to account forâas fully as possibleâthose still missing in accordance with the motto of POWs and MIAsââGone, but not forgotten.ââ
This year, the cadets will conclude the vigil with a candlelight ceremony at 11:45 p.m. on Veterans Day, which will include taps being played by members of CWUâs music department. Community members are encouraged to stop by to see the POW/MIA displays and visit with the participating cadets.
