CWU recommends keeping aviation program in Ellensburg

  • May 15, 2018

Central Washington University administrators recommend the school keep its aviation program at Bowers Field in Ellensburg and manage the airport in a joint arrangement with the county.

The CWU Board of Trustees asked staff to research options for the aviation program last fall following the closure of the secondary airport runway. The trustees asked for a plan for Bowers Field, including the purchase or long-term lease of the facility. The trustees also asked for a business plan to move the program to McAllister Field in Yakima.

The trustees plan to discuss the issue at a meeting next week in Ellensburg.
