CWU Geology Professor Explains the Amazing Technology of LiDAR

" . . .The technology’s roots and use reach back to the invention of lasers in the 1960s. Walter Szeliga, an assistant professor of geology at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, said LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) played a role in the Apollo missions.

“There were LiDAR applications for how they actually landed on the moon. For the Apollo landers, they used LiDAR to judge the distance to the moon,” Szeliga said."
