As a writer, Mary Ann Kerr creates memorable characters — some so memorable, readers warn her against letting them go. Kerr’s own children are among those fans.

“If you drop Elijah Humphries, I’m going to be upset,” she recalled son Stephen Kerr telling her while he was editing one of her books.

A published author since “Liberty’s Inheritance” was released in 2012, Mary Ann Kerr has written nine books with another coming in September. She’s four chapters into her 11th book.
