Award-Winning Poet Laura Read to Give Reading at CWU

Spokane poet Laura Read, whose newest collection, Dresses From the Old Country, was just released from BOA Editions, will present her work and answer questions during an appearance from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Central Washington University on November 6.

Read’s presentation, part of the 2018-19 Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series, will take place in the CWU Museum of Culture and Environment in Dean Hall. She will sign books following the reading.

The event is free and open to the public.

Read is also the author of Instructions for My Mother’s Funeral (University of Pittsburg Press, 2012), which won the AWP Donald Hall Prize for Poetry, and the chapbook The Chewbacca on Hollywood Boulevard Reminds Me of You (Floating Bridge Press, 2011), winner of the Floating Bridge Press Chapbook Award. Her poem “Pentecost” was selected by Rita Dove to appear in the New York Times Magazine.

Additionally, Read is a recipient of a Washington State Artists Trust Grant, a Florida Review Prize for Poetry, and the Crab Creek Review Prize for Poetry.

She teaches English and writing at Spokane Falls Community College.
