An astronaut who was in space for 14 days, is now at Central Washington University talking to the students about what it was like to come from a migrant family and overcoming barriers to achieve his dreams.

Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez remembers his entire childhood migrating every year from Mexico to the United States to work in the fields with his parents.

He attended many schools and didn’t learn to speak English until he was 12 years old.

Hernandez says this was the only life he ever knew, until one day, he saw on TV the very last astronaut walking on the moon.

Watch the entire interview on KIMA TV.
