Ann Anderson, Central Washington University’s director of community and government relations, has been chosen to serve on the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She was selected by Chamber CEO Jim Armstrong to represent CWU and confirmed by the Board this week. Anderson is filling the position recently held by Roy Savoian.

“We are delighted to have Ann work with the Chamber to promote economic vitality and to identify partnerships that expand educational opportunity in our region,” Armstrong said.

Anderson, who has bachelor’s and master's degrees in education from CWU, was a Washington senator for 12 years. Her leadership positions included Senate majority whip, majority caucus chair and deputy majority leader. Her committee assignments included Vice-Chair of the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee, Vice-Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee and member of the Senate Higher Education Committee. Anderson’s work in education has been recognized with CWU's Distinguished Alumni Award and the Washington Vocational Education Legislative Award. During her tenure in the Legislature, both the Association of Washington Business and the Washington Farm Bureau named her legislator of the year.

As CWU’s director of community and government relations, Anderson acts as the university's primary liaison with civic and business groups in Central Washington, particularly in Ellensburg. Anderson served previously on the Chamber Board for several years.
