The Central Washington University Piano Club is looking forward to welcoming renowned pianist Daniel Anastasio to the CWU Recital Hall on Wednesday, October 14, at 6 p.m.

The free concert in the McIntyre Music Building, titled How Music’s Hidden Layers Guide Our Emotions, will lead the audience through an interactive performance in an intimate setting, exploring what layers lie beneath the surface of great music.

The evening will also include a special four-hands performance with CWU Associate Professor of Piano Yerin Kim.

Through a combination of playing and speaking, Anastasio reveals how melody, harmony, bass lines, rhythm, and musical structure work together to create moments of extraordinary emotional power. Attendees will enjoy familiar masterpieces in a new way, unfamiliar works with clear attention, and the hidden relationships that transform simple musical ideas into deeply connective works of art.

Featuring music by J.S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Edvard Grieg, Claude Debussy, Martin Bresnick and others, the October 14 program invites audiences of all backgrounds to listen with fresh ears and join in an endless search for deep human connection through music.

Anastasio is a soloist and chamber musician based in San Antonio, Texas, who combines an intellectual curiosity with “technical prowess and emotional sensitivity” (San Antonio Report).

As Artistic Director of several organizations including Agarita and the San Antonio Chamber Music Society, his innovative programs have included collaborations with dancers, writers, museums, photographers, glass-blowers, and more.
