CWU to celebrate Arts and Humanities Month throughout October

Members of the Ellensburg and Central Washington University communities are invited to join the CWU College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) throughout the month of October to celebrate the value of arts and humanities careers in society.

As part of Arts and Humanities Month, the faculty and staff from CAH have scheduled a series of events and activities designed to create excitement about arts and humanities-related disciplines, along with the people who bring to life the many cultural traditions that add value to our daily lives.

The monthlong celebration of creativity and culture is open to the public, and CWU invites anyone who may be interested to join the celebration. Planned events include performances, panels, artist talks, and other activities hosted by CAH departments, including Art + Design, Communication, English, History, Music, Philosophy and Comparative Religion, Theatre and Film, and World Languages and Cultures.

“This is a great chance for students and community members to explore the wide variety of offerings we have in CAH,” Dean Chris Redfearn said. “We welcome anyone who is interested in learning more about the power of the arts to join us for our many scheduled events and meet our talented faculty who bring arts and humanities careers to life.”

Interested community members are invited to join CAH faculty and staff for a series of signature events, including an address from Washington State Poet Laureate Derek Sheffield on October 5; a CAH Majors and Minors Fair on October 20; and a Night of Ghost Stories on October 30.

Other scheduled events include a student media panel, film screenings, art tours, and a Halloween-themed orchestra concert on October 26. For a full schedule of Arts and Humanities Month events at Central, check out the event webpage.

“We hope you will join us as we explore how arts and humanities degrees can prepare you for more than a career,” Redfearn said. “As I and my colleagues can attest, these pursuits can also position you for lifelong satisfaction, success, and opportunities for growth.”
