For the past 30 years, Washington state has set aside the first full week of May for Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW). The celebration, scheduled for May 4-10 this year, honors employees of federal, state, county, and local government agencies, including those of us at Central Washington University.

The Washington Office of Financial Management’s (OFM) Human Resources department coordinates the annual celebration and awards ceremonies to recognize government employees for their great work and service to the public.

A number of local PSRW events are coordinated by state employees for state employees, and will be held this year in Olympia, Spokane, and the Tri-Cities.

On Wednesday, May 7, Olympia will host an event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the East Plaza Campus lawn on the Washington State Capitol grounds. Spokane’s gathering will be held the same day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the National Guard Readiness Center, Building G.

The Tri-Cities event will be held Thursday, May 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gesa Carousel of Dreams in Kennewick. A complimentary lunch will be served at all three events.

Later in the month, OFM will host Washington State Employee Night at the Mariners on Saturday, May 31, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. The game against the Minnesota Twins will begin at 4:15 p.m. and specially priced tickets are available online.
