The Central Washington University community is once again being encouraged to submit your nominations for the upcoming President’s Diversity Awards, scheduled for April 17 in the SURC Ballroom.

The 11th annual event, co-sponsored by the CWU President’s Office and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity, recognizes and celebrates our collective efforts towards equity and belonging. The ceremony also highlights the dedication and commitment of our remarkable colleagues, students, and community members who embody these values.

CWU will honor up to five individuals in each of four categories — students, faculty, staff, and community members — along with one recipient of the Bobby Cummings Lifetime Achievement Award.

The nomination deadline is Friday, March 7, so please submit your online recommendations as soon as possible.

Nominees should demonstrate exemplary leadership that manifests into practical, actionable ideals of equity and belonging. Individuals who will be considered for a Diversity Award must also demonstrate this commitment across a range of activities, including:

  • efforts to recruit and retain diverse faculty, staff and students;
  • multicultural programming and learning opportunities;
  • community outreach and collaboration; and
  • advocacy that results in positive, observable impacts on campus and in the larger community.

The Thursday April 17, event will feature a keynote by Patrisse Cullors, an award-winning organizer, artist, abolitionist, and scholar-activist who co-founded the Black Lives Matter movement. Free tickets for the President’s Diversity Awards will be available from March 1 to April 10 through Wildcat Tickets.

If you have questions about the ceremony or the award nominations, email Sarah Scott at sarah.scott@cwu.edu.
