The CWU Paramedicine department will welcome a special guest for an online presentation on Thursday, December 12.

Dr. Scott Devenish, a professor of paramedicine and the chair of the Australasian Council of Paramedicine Deans at Australian Catholic University, will present “EMS For All — Professional Identity and Culture in Paramedicine” at 4 p.m. on Zoom.

The free presentation is open to the public and no pre-registration is required.

Dr. Devenish will share his expertise on how paramedic education and professional identity have evolved in Australia, providing valuable insights into how similar advancements could benefit the EMS profession in the United States.

Highlights of the presentation include:

  • The role of university degrees in transforming paramedicine into a respected profession;
  • How professional registration, research, and specializations have built a unified paramedic identity in Australia;
  • Practical strategies to improve U.S. career pathways, reduce workforce attrition, and elevate EMS to new heights.

As Chair of the Australasian Council of Paramedicine Deans and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Paramedicine, Dr. Devenish brings a wealth of expertise in paramedicine education and practice.

He is deeply involved in advancing paramedic training to meet the growing need for bachelor’s degrees in the field, focusing on enhancing paramedic skills and knowledge for the evolving healthcare landscape.

Dr. Devenish is also exploring initiatives such as an international student swap program to foster cross-border learning and collaboration among paramedics worldwide.
