CWU Crimson & Black magazine was honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) last month as a 2024 Best of District VIII Award winner.
The semi-annual publication is produced by University Relations, in collaboration with University Advancement, and is mailed to nearly 30,000 alumni and CWU community members in the fall and spring.
The Best of District VIII Awards celebrate the best work in educational advancement in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada region, acknowledging “superior accomplishments that have lasting impact, demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, and deliver exceptional results.”
Earlier this year, University Relations submitted the fall and spring 2023 editions of Crimson & Black for consideration in this year’s CASE Circle of Excellence Awards contest. The annual competition received 4,223 global entries and named 486 winners, recognizing a wide variety of work in advancement services, alumni relations, communications, fundraising, and marketing.
Crimson & Black did not receive an award in the international competition when the winners were announced in June, but it was chosen this fall for the Best of District VIII Awards in the Magazines Alumni/General Interest category for four-year colleges and universities. District VIII consists of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and western Canada.
CWU Associate Director of Strategic Communications David Leder serves as the managing editor of Crimson & Black, and University Relations Lead Graphic Designer Bret Bleggi oversees the design and production of the magazine.
Other regular contributors include photographer David Dick and writer Rune Torgersen from University Relations; writer Robin Burck and designer Kevin Hill from University Advancement; and freelance writers Tara Roberts, Savannah Tranchell, and Jodie Nicotra.
The next edition of Crimson & Black is expected to be in mailboxes by early December. If you would like to read stories from recent editions, visit cwu.edu/crimson-black.
