About Rainbow Flags
In 1978, the first rainbow flag appeared at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade, designed by Gilbert Baker. Since then, more flags representing 2LGBTQ+ identity have become popular as symbols of identity and pride. Flags continue to evolve, such as the addition of the brown and black stripes on the traditional rainbow flag to symbolize queer people of color which first appeared in the Philadelphia Pride parade in 2017.
