Web Backend Programmer
About Ben Whiting
I work on CWU’s website. As a full stack developer, I specialize in making adjustments and adding features to both the front end (client-facing side) of the site and the back end (server side) as well. Additionally, I assist clients within the university with any issues they may have pertaining to the site and try to help educate them in the process.
Professional Overview:
I attended Oregon State University for two years before transferring to Linfield University in McMinnville, OR and graduating magna cum laude with a B.S. in environmental science. Before pursuing a career in web development, I worked briefly as a mortgage loan officer and an environmental science lab coordinator.
Diversity and Inclusivity:
Before working with CWU, I volunteered with a civil tech group based out of Portland, OR, that aimed to assist vulnerable populations throughout the state by creating free-to-use websites that served their needs. The specific project I contributed to involved creating a documentation hub for housing-insecure individuals that helped keep all of their personal documentation in one place while also creating a method in which they could apply for housing without worrying about paying for rental application fees.
Hobbies:
My favorite hobbies include cooking, hiking, gardening, traveling, learning new languages, and video games. I’m conversationally fluent in Spanish, and I’m actively studying Japanese with hopes of one day obtaining fluency.
