Edwin Torres
Veterans Center Director
Edwin Torres is the Director of the Veteran & Military-Connected Student Center at Central Washington University, where he takes pride in creating a welcoming space for service members, veterans, their families, and the campus community.
Edwin’s journey of service and support began in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a Helicopter Mechanic on the AH-1W Super Cobra and UH-1Y “Venom” Huey. In 2013, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, an experience that continues to shape his commitment to service and community. After completing his time in the Marines, he returned to Washington and later enrolled at CWU, where he worked at the Veteran Center as a VA Work Study and later as the Vet Corps Navigator. He graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography.
He went on to work for the National Park Service, contributing to conservation efforts at North Cascades National Park and Golden Gate National Recreation Area as a Biological Science Technician. His path eventually brought him back to CWU, first as the Center’s Outreach Coordinator and now as Director.
Passionate about helping student veterans and military-connected students thrive, Edwin is dedicated to guiding them through the transition to university life and supporting their growth. He especially encourages student veterans to explore and build their post-military identities, ensuring every student feels a strong sense of belonging, purpose, and possibility.
Outside of work, Edwin can often be found exploring Washington’s trails, nurturing his ever-growing “houseplant jungle,” or enjoying time with family and friends.
