Natashia Lindsey
Associate Professor
Natashia Lindsey (lecturer) received her Ph.D. in Performance as Public Practice at The University of Texas at Austin. Broadly, her research examines the many intersections of performance and race. Her dissertation, (In)valuable Mixing: Mixed Race Performance, Commodification, and American Racialization, explores racial performativity through mixed-race characters and their monoracial family members since the election of President Barack Obama. Her dissertation also theorizes a critical white double consciousness for white theatre artists.
Lindsey earned her bachelor of science and master of arts degrees in Pan-African studies from the University of Louisville. She worked with UofL’s African American Theatre program and was a co-founder and co-performer in the interracial, inter-generational poetry group S.H.E.! (Solidifying Her Evolution!). S.H.E.! created various choreopoems that focused on issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality.
Lindsey is an advocate of the Fat Acceptance movement and Health at Every Size (HAES). She is originally from Caneyville, Kentucky.
