About Dave Leder

Assign and write CWU news and feature stories; manage Crimson & Black; media relations; executive communications; emergency communications.

Professional Overview:
I graduated from WSU with degrees in journalism and Spanish, worked in marketing for four years, and then worked in the newspaper industry for 18 years before joining CWU in 2019.

Professional Experience:
Started as a marketing department proofreader/copywriter for REI; spent six years as a sports writer at two Oregon newspapers; worked as a copy editor for the Yakima Herald-Republic from 2007-16; served as managing editor of Yakima Valley Business Times for nearly three years; joined CWU as a Public Affairs writer in 2019 and started my current role in 2024.

Diversity and Inclusivity:
As a storyteller, I always try to speak up for the little guy. I believe everyone deserves equal attention, regardless of their background, and I seek out stories that make other people feel valued. I often speak up when someone is being treated unfairly, and I’m proud to make my voice heard when I perceive injustice.

Personal Touch:
My wife, Marcie, and I have two daughters, Lenora and Mollie. We also have two Labrador retrievers and two cats. When I’m not at work or home, I spend time as a soccer and basketball referee. I also like spending time outdoors and watching sporting events in-person and on TV.
