Krystal Noga-Styron

Professional Overview
Dr. Noga-Styron has been employed as a criminal deputy-prosecuting attorney and continues to serve as a Judge Pro Tempore in municipal and district courts, as well as a certified mediator, throughout the state of Washington. She works closely with the board of directors at her local school district, and as a political consultant for several local, state, and national candidates.
Academic Achievements
She earned her B.A. in Spanish, and her B.S. in Political Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her Master’s degree in Journalism and Communication, as well as her Juris Doctorate, and her Ph.D. in Media and Communication Studies, are from the University of Oregon.
Research Highlights
Her teaching, research, and scholarship interests lie in the areas of cultural competence, diversity, and social justice. In particular, she teaches courses, and publishes, on capital punishment, gun violence, and other legal and ethical issues as they relate to racial and sexual minorities. She represented CWU and the Law and Justice department at the Taskforce on Race and the Criminal Justice System’s Racial Bias in the Criminal Justice System Roundtable before the Washington State Supreme Court.
She regularly speaks at national conferences on the subject of critical cultural competence for 21st century educators. She has also traveled internationally as a delegate of the Washington State Bar Association to places like Cuba and South Africa to study those countries’ social, legal, and penal systems to identify and make recommendations on how to change inequitable systems.

Professional Memberships
In regards to professional and public service, Dr. Noga-Styron has a long history of doing service work for disadvantaged and underrepresented groups. She has served on CWU’s Undocumented Students Workgroup, as well as co-chaired the College of the Sciences Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She is a member of numerous professional organizations and serves as an ad hoc reviewer and editorial member of several academic journals. As an attorney, she volunteers her time and legal skills with the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, the Northwest Justice Project, and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.About Noga-Styron
