Sarah Winterwood
Senior Lecturer
I am a Senior Lecturer in the Sociology department at Central Washington University. I earned my B.S. from Manchester University and my M.A. and Ph.D. from Kent State University. I joined the Sociology Department at CWU in 2015.
My interests center social inequalities and social justice at the intersections of race and ethnicity, social class, gender, sexuality, and disability. Facilitating learning about social inequalities and social justice is deeply meaningful to me. I am honored to share emotional-intellectual space with students where we can challenge internalized beliefs; make space for voices and experiences that are often silenced; and draw on the scientific wisdom of sociology.
I teach the following courses:
- American Society (SOC 305)
- Foundations of Social Research Methods (SOC 363)
- Individual and Society (SOC 307)
- Introduction to the Major (SOC 200)
- Minoritized Groups (SOC 365)
- Principles of Sociology (SOC 107)
- Seminar on Racism (SOC 386)
- Social Construction of Race (SOC 109)
- Social Inequality (SOC 445)
- Social Problems (SOC 101)
- Sociology of Food (SOC 322)
- Sociology of Sexualities (SOC 358)
- Statistics and Society (SOC 364)
I enjoy connecting with students around learning. I welcome discussions about sociology, course content, future life plans, life-long learning, and more.
